Catapult-funded organization Hope Blooms Youth Social Entrepreneurial Ventures Inc. received $106,700 over a period of 22 months to develop their SEED program, which consists of an equitable marketplace in the heart of their Nova Scotia community. The central pillar of this equitable marketplace is a cryptocurrency-inspired micro-economy. This new system allows the donors and recipients to be completely anonymous, providing a greater sense of dignity for those receiving food assistance. The program has served to reduce food waste, increase access to fresh produce, increase freedom of choice, and create a sense of empowerment of those receiving the subsidy.
