Roots of a Black Girl – Final Report
The first of its kind in Canada, this study increases understanding of what is working for girls in the education system, and where they are feeling ignored, pushed out, and inadequately supported. Through the ‘Roots of a Black Girl’ Research project, we better understand the realities of girls’ experiences in schools. This has allowed us to assess and identify needs that can be addressed through our programs at Power to Girls Foundation. Some highlighted recommendations based on this research include:
- An increase in access to supportive resources for Black 2SLGBTQ+ youth
- The creation of programming for biracial girls
- The survey of Black girls across Ontario to better understand the resource they need
- The continued education of non-Black students and staff on anti-racist practices through Black-focused curricula
