This report contains data and findings from Hope Blooms Green Labs project years 1 and 2. Prepared with the support of the Students Commission of Canada (SCC), it aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Green labs program for youth in marginalized Nova Scotian communities, including Northern Halifax.
Survey findings suggested that Green Labs was building a strong foundation for youth
leadership through its tiered model of engagement and mentorship.
Overall, the perspectives collected from youth across all three age groups suggested that participants had positive experiences in the Green Labs project. Despite the different roles and responsibilities assigned to each age group, responses indicated that youth at various stages of the program gained meaningful experiences from their participation, whether through learning new environmental knowledge, developing leadership awareness, feeling connected to the program community, or sharing a sense of purpose in contributing to environmental stewardship through collective action.
